The Beczak Environmental Education Center
The Beczak Environmental Center is located right on the Hudson River and has it’s own beach! Having been newly renovated, this beautiful center has a 300 gallon tidal tank that is home to river animals and plants, a three dimensional estuary model and several large tanks filled with animals from the river. Their outdoor programs include “Seining the Hudson River” where they pull a large net through the water to catch fish and small animals for the children to see. Some of their catch may surprise you; bluefish, herring, striped bass, shrimp, eels and comb jellies. Their latest program is called Cuckoo for Copepods which is a plankton lab where children learn about the role of plankton in the ecosystem, collect samples of plankton and identify the different species. Children also learn about food and water cycles that effect our environment.
The programs are only open to groups. The Bright Kids Resource arranges group trips to the Beczak Environmental Center. If you are interested, please call us for the next scheduled trip.
