Welcome parents and grandparents of bright children! This section has a collection of general topics pertaining to bright kids. We have identified local resources that you may find helpful. Also, please check out our events for Parenting Bright Kids. Here is a list of topics in this section:
Books - This is a short list of books pertaining to parenting (and grandparenting) gifted children.
Shopping - Looking for a gift? or more fun things for your child? These stores offer educational toys, books, learning aids, workbooks, you name it!
Distance Learning - Many universities have created distance learning programs for bright children. These programs start at the Elementary school level and go through High School and beyond. The programs allow students to study a subject through a computer program and with a tutor.
Parent Support Groups - This is a local listings of parent support groups in the Westchester area. We’ve tried to list as many as we could find, if you know of one that is not listed here please let us know!
Summer Camps - There are so many camps to choose from. These camps are specifically designed for bright and gifted children. They often require a letter of recommendation for admission.
After School Programs - This is a listing of local after school programs that are specifically geared toward bright and gifted children.
Local Gifted Associations - There aren’t that many gifted associations in the Westchester area. We’ve tried to list those that are within driving distance of Westchester. If you know of others please let us know, we can list them here.
National and State Gifted Associations - There are many national level associations and universities with programs focused on gifted children. This includes many talent search programs as well as gifted associations.
Professional Help - Working with gifted children requires a thorough knowledge of their social, emotional and intellectual characteristics. There are a few professionals in the area who can help.
Twice Exceptional - Those children who have both a learning disability and are gifted are a unique but not small population. We have some references there that may help you if your child is twice exceptional.
